Run your own Bitcoin node.

Run your own Nostr relay.

A full Bitcoin node verifies all transactions and blocks to ensure that they are legitimate and in accordance with the network rules.

A personal Nostr relay provides a backup of your data and ensures that all of your notes and events are available to re-broadcast to others in the future.

I am not a developer and I agree with dev. But I would like to follow a Raspberry Pi + Citadel approach in order to run Bitcoin, Lightning and Nostr nodes.

Citadel is fine. I'd recommend Start9 though.

So Embassy OS you recommend...

Please separate your financial services from your social services and run them on different devices... You'll thank me later.

Isolating environments is the way 🤙

That's how I've been doing. Most people won't though.

Solid advice. Will do so

Citadel is working on a nostr client.

what about electricity costs of running a Bitcoin node? which hardware you use?

For me it didn't make a difference. Running an i5 9600k and a mini pc. What made a difference in the electricity bill was the shower and the air conditioner

Agree. My node runs on a Raspberry Pi, but I have a 3 year old laptop (i7-8650U CPU @ 1.90GHz) that acts as my server that runs everything else, including my relay.

My Raspberry Pi uses a few dollars a year of electricity. You won't notice it.

Do you think it’s fine to run both on the same device? Umbrel on a Rasb Pi…

If you're using Tailscale and not opening up your relay to the entire world, then yes, it's probably fine. Otherwise, I would split them up. Mine are split up on difference devices.

Plus let’s add this:

Run your own Lightning ⚡️ node.

Become your own bank, provide liquidity to the network, route payments, earn fees.

Agree. I was oversimplifying, but you're right, if you're running a Bitcoin node, you should run a Lightning node too.

For the technically challenged, this seems daunting.

Gotta learn to run a BTC node

A Nostr Relay, a Lightning node, gey btc off exchanges into cold storage.

And we wonder why adoption is slower then expected 🤔

start with running a Bitcoin node. thats the easiest one of the 3 imo

Just spun one up last month.

Working on lightning now

it seems your lightning wallet has not been setup properly or not relayed properly to all nostr nodes.

i just tried tipping you, and was unable to.

nevermind it worked now....must be early stage glitches with clients

Zap received! Tyty

Amethyst client is a bit slow for sure.

Guess I need to learn how to manage my relays?

If I set up a relay today, will it backup all my past notes?

Once you set up a relay can you retroactively pull your posts and stuff onto that relay?

I was just dealing with more Nostr FUD over data storage, but at the end of the day, every user has the option to store the own data in a self sovereign way. I can also run a relay for myself and let a few friends use it.
