Is there anyone legitimately working on a sustainable zapscription thing? If you are, please DM me! If you know someone who is, tag them here. I am asking about purpose built zapscription thing! 🐶🐾🫡

I feel like alby could do it
nostr:npub1wxl6njlcgygduct7jkgzrvyvd9fylj4pqvll6p32h59wyetm5fxqjchcan and nostr:npub1l2vyh47mk2p0qlsku7hg0vn29faehy9hy34ygaclpn66ukqp3afqutajft highlighter are doing this. I’m no expert but I have recently started supporting three npubs with 21 sats a day as a trial run m, hoping for to expand the fun giving soon
Yes, fully a know about them already. But I see these services more of a Patrion like offering, and not truly a subscription one 🐶🐾🫂
⚡️
I don’t follow. (Sorry!) could you explain the difference please?
Ok. One is reoccurring donation with no obligations or expectations. If it happens, great, if not, it’s ok.
Subscription on the other hand, promises to give you a service for a payment and the service terminates when payment is not made. 🐶🐾🫡
Ah I see now.
I approached it with a no obligations mindset but I can see how it could be considered as a ‘this for that’ arrangement
I think subscriptions and the pull model are a compromise to the limitations of fiat. I think the internet native model should be micro payments, pay as you go, pay for what you consume. Wallets should be able to trickle out payments that way
I played with a prototype for this a while back: https://oak-node.net/doc/trunk/doc/ons/ons-4.md
If there's any service provider interested, LMK and I could revive it.
Essentially comes down to:
- offer a LN address where customers can easily pay to: user_id@service_provider.com
- the LNURL-pay endpoint creates invoices with the user ID in the description
- in effect, any payment to that LN Address results in an invoice with the user's ID in the description
- user can setup a recurring payment (or stop paying, or change the payment amount) anytime, using any recurring payment solution
- service provider needs a simple piece of software that can lookup current user balance based on paid invoices with that User ID as description
- the service can stop or resume, based on the user account balance
Lmk if you find one. As far as I can tell, we are waiting for bolt12 or something... Or you'd just need to watch for zaps and then query your wallet with lnbits or something to correlate a zap to a product/account. Zaps alone are not enough for this..
"The zap receipt is not a proof of payment, all it proves is that some nostr user fetched an invoice. The existence of the zap receipt implies the invoice as paid, but it could be a lie given a rogue implementation." -nip57
Absolutely! It may even be possible to integrate it with nostr protocol. 🐶🐾🤔
It seems we have two models for subscriptions, but nothing is gained from the subscription, so they're more just like recurring donations. A subscription model where you as a subscriber receive a product or service, now that's something that we do not have yet. Is this what you're talking about?
Isn’t a paid relay a type of subscription service? I’ve got no idea whether they’re a one-time payment or recurring, but it is a payment of some type. (?)
It is, but there is no auto-charge later. 🐶🐾🫡
This is the way! The way to fund programmers and use money as the driving force to make nostr better and better!
If only we could convince someone to lower the 3 person minimum, to be advertised as opening a nest. How many sats would that take?
500 sats each time an op wants to open a new nest sounds about right.
Imagine how easy opening a nest would be. (Being seen as opening a nest)

Paying a small amount was always something that we've discussed, larger amounts for custom vanity URLs too. The issue is no one wants to build it.
Yeah. I was thinking the free version if you have to coordinate with “2 others” to be visible as an active nest.
Or pay 500 sats from the person starting the nest (they would surely want this route vs the previous)
But true, it doesn’t seem like there is enough interest to make it. We only have a few who use nests anyway. And even nostr itself is so way to tiny. Active users seem very small.
All well.
