That's why the caveat "but with microG" in my OP.
microG is a foss implementation of some Google play service libraries.
You can get WOS to work that way, so technically it does not require *Google* services. But apparently at least microG
I have to look at this again. I see no rational reason why you should need Google Services to write NFC. But you never know with Google. Do other wallets write to NFC without Google Services?
Does NFCtools count (for NFC write)?
Breez, Chromium, Zeus etc work well for NFC Read without Google services
