Great episode. I really enjoyed hearing nostr:npub1jfn4ghffz7uq7urllk6y4rle0yvz26800w4qfmn4dv0sr48rdz9qyzt047 discuss NVC (non-violent communication).

When my daughter was a toddler, we did an NVC course. I left with two strong feelings:

1) NVC is extremely important

2) Without inner transformation, NVC can be manipulative

Later, when I joined a Quaker meeting, I found folks who embodied NVC without sounding like it. They'd done the inner work. NVC was more than just a means to an end. A lot of listening and deep concern for speaking Truth to/with others in a compassionate way.

Dude that's awesome!!! I had the same conclusion. NVC can be really gross if used incorrectly, but really profound if it's integrated in a natural way.

In fact I find it to be more of a default way of life than a way I actually speak. I do the NVC translations in my head and just try to live by it rather than speaking the lines robotically.

Glad you enjoyed the talk and I have mad respect for the Quaker movement.

It's like so many things - diet, exercise, sleep, Austrian economics, Bitcoin, religion. You start off acting out the part of a believer. Then that burns off and what remains is the essence that is integrated naturally into who you are. It's almost a required step to go through that "born again" phase where you want to evangelize hard and convert those around you. Then you chill out and just know. Soon enough, you watch others go through the same steps and can watch your former self splaining the Federal Reserve System to someone who had no idea what they were in for when they simply said "hi."
