I hear this one a lot.
My favorite answer is “yeah of course - someone can fork the code and double the available supply. People have already done it. But the thing is, as soon as they change that rule, it’s no longer Bitcoin.”
More than once, the other person’s eyes have lit up with understanding. The nature of Bitcoin starts to become more clear to them when they “get” that it’s not a rule set they’re used to.
