China and Russia are facing massive depopulation over the next 25 years. That puts their territory at huge risk to outside threats. I don't think they can afford to sit on their hands.

Turkey may be in NATO, but it really isn't worried about Russia any more. It joined NATO to protect itself from the Soviet Union. Now it buys missile defense systems from the Russians. Erdogan likes to threaten Athens and is interested in restoring the Ottoman Empire. While that may be bluster, Turkey has more to gain in undermining the US' relationship with Israel than protecting its NATO status (influence over the Middle East like it used to have).

And if you’re right, China would need to expend a lot of resources to keep Iran under its wing than the US
