Thankfully our power just came back on. A friendly reminder to have plenty of lanterns on hand for emergencies. We used ours alot these last few hours. Even though the outage was during the day, its cloudy, dark, and rainy today, so parts of the house were dark.

Also, I put a big pot of water on top of the woodstove and added some cinnamon sticks and cloves, which gives the whole house a wonderful aroma. Not an emergency kind of thing, but it made the house feel cozy. And this could also be used to heat up water if needed. In fact we heated water this way during an extended outage a couple years ago. Just some post-outage thoughts. #grownostr #homesteading

What a lovely idea. I imagine the smell would kinda calm my nervous system in the tense situation. Glad you have power and wishing you a warm and cozy night!

A headlamp can be very useful, i like your woodstove, i never say something like this before but now you make me want to smell your house πŸ˜…

Yes, i actually used my headlamp today also. Very useful.

headlamps are the best!

Especially if they have a red light option. Bugs are often more drawn to white light than to red, and red is better for night vision.

those red lights have another unintended use…

you can shine them on the red plastic gas cans, and see where the fuel level is. discovered that one by accident πŸ€“

We have those LED lanterns that Jack recommends. Used several times, last a long time.

Yep, those are the ones we have too.
