Onboarding everyone to

one Nostr application and

one mega-relay and

one follow list and

one company and...

is soon going to be discovered to be a cardinal mistake.

It has repeatedly been shown to be our Achilles heel, as something interrupts the Primal service and masses of users head for the exit.

That is just Twitter, with extra steps, but in purple.

Nostr is not meant to be centralized.

Nostr is not meant to have a single point of failure.

Nostr is not meant to have a CEO.

Nostr is not meant to have a God List.

That. Is. The. Whole. Point.

Let a thousand Nostrs bloom. 🌸

My sentiments exactly. Thanks for putting it out there in so many words.πŸ«‚πŸ’–πŸ”₯πŸ™πŸ»πŸ˜†

Any specific one your referring to? Because Primal gave me that vibe. Ditto is better as its more mastodon like, but I ultimately settled on amethyst with 13 relays.

Primal, but there could always be another app, that takes over that top spot. The problem is not some particular app or service; it's the concentration.

At least its more shielded than other platforms that fell victim to this because people can use multiple relays at once. If primal went rogue and decoupled they can login to their ID on anything else which they can then continue to use seamlessly. That kinda stuff wasn't possible on mastodon which allowed gab to decouple.

What do you mean by β€œif” they go rouge. They already don’t follow the proper relay model. They already give you a list of β€œgood” people to follow. They already sensor people and messages they don’t want through. They already store and make copies of your photos to serve up instead of your actual photos and media. In my book they are all ready a rouge actor.

Guess I've had misgivings about Primal since day one, and you make a great echo chamber for my thoughts.πŸ˜œπŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ«‚

But but how can we retain devs if they don't have all the power?? Devs need to have an inner circle where they centrally decide the path Nostr development will take unilaterally while disguising it as open source and decentralized. It is the ideal environment for big shot devs.

It’s not devs. It’s shitfluencers that are building a walled garden so they can sell you their overpriced products

I was only kinda joking, but it could be both. In the end, Nostr is decentralized but each app and relay is entirely centralized. And a few apps and relays account for the majority of Nostr usage.

Agreed. It's not the devs.

The devs have been fighting this, from the get-go. It gives me hope.
