Feels like it took a century for my refund to come in, but the new CPU came in yesterday and got some time to work on the Ai Machine again.

Also think I have a rather simple way of mounting the non-compatible hot swap bays that should be pretty snug. Hopefully get some time this week to get that setup.

Heh, how many drives did you put into that?!

It holds five 2.5" drives 😱

The case holds 5, the bays that I'm also mounting hold 4 each for both of my RAID partitions. So it'll be 13 drives total if I don't find a way to add more 🤣

I don't even know how my TB I have at this point. I use RAID 10 so storage is cut in half, but I use 8TB drives, so it's still a ton. Then I have a main boot SSD, with a live backup SSD, then a third SSD that I swap to mirror every couple of months and then stash away. That will probably be done in an external bay that I have for swapping though.

Plan to have somewhere between 40-60 TB when it's in full operation, but I don't know if I have ever reached a point where I considered a computer project "complete"... it's usually more of a never-ending process than a specific task with an end goal, lol.

Daaaaaamn.

dev version of lego :)

Not even playing around. 🔥

Nice. I know it's time consuming but you should start series of shorts on your hardware + software setup. Plus detailed review of open source LLM software.

I'm relying on cloud computing currently to run my models but would be great to have my own server running.

All of this posted on #nostr too so we could zap each other :)

Correction: not only LLM but throw in all you can find.

Open source AI is the only way out of the centralized shackles.

That’s the focus on the show, self hosted and sovereign Ai - and I’ll definitely be doing that. I agree, and think it’s really important. Will be covering a bunch of Ai tools that I’ve been exploring and using, all of them the local run versions.
