Shelter building is a good skill to practice, but I did one time sleep quite contentedly on a very remote hilltop in central Nebraska with nothing but a blue poly tarp folded taco-style around my sleeping bag. Got a pretty good rain that night too. Just flipped the tarp corner over my head and went back to sleep.
