As a Canadian-American dual citizen, I couldn’t hate tax season more. No Canadian tax software exists that fulfill my situation, so I have to file it manually. My Canadian tax situation isn’t complicated enough to justify hiring a Canadian tax accountant. All the electronically-fillable PDFs require Adobe Acrobat Reader or else all the numbers become misaligned. Adobe validates for Canadian provinces and postal codes so I can’t enter my US state or zip code either. I have to resort to printing the forms out, filling them out by hand, and mailing them in. Everything about this situation is garbage.

You could just evade taxes

Having had to file in both countries while living in the US, Can confirm. Super annoying.

I just handed it to a cross-border tax firm and they generally found the best outcome.

Pricey but always ended up with net positive fiat as a result.
