Maybe it’s time to end global feed and to prevent testimonies like these?

I personally haven’t seen anything of that nature but nobody should be exposed to that kind of imagery as it hurts one’s soul. nostr:note14jgvjs23m32cd3f273tmkj33pt4usx0rtxmn9amp4lf3j2sjnngsx082aq

Or just set a setting where images and videos are banned from viewing on global feed could be better compromise ?

I don't think humans looking at global feeds have much utility. In the future there will probably be AI agents to look at everything and surface interesting content.

Interesting point of view 🤔

I disagree - global feed was how I built up most of the people I follow.

Hashtags are helpful but can be easily misused & while global is not very uplifting & can be sometimes acerbic, especially with videos/image auto-preview off it's still useful to gather what's being discussed across the world. (Sometimes even spam is not boring)

Just joking but you could follow the hashtag #spam if that’s what you like 😂

I see - though I wonder how much longer that will be possible. I expect the spam problem will get a lot worse at some point. When there's like 10000 spam posts for every real human it will be a defacto arms race between spam-generating AI and spam-detecting AI. Fortunately we can use PoW notes to tilt the balance in favor of the defenders. We're lucky to be part of early nostr where it's still niche enough that we can find each other!

Is this what your client satiate is trying solve?

It's one of the things I'm working on, yeah.

I have this theory that nostr might be one of the only organic networks left standing in the AI spam-pocalypse

If your feed only contains the people you follow plus the people they follow. Then that is typically 20,000 pubkeys and no spam.

Follow the math.

Do we want to live in a world where AI pre-filters our content? 🤔🤔🤔

It’s inevitable.

We need to make sure that we build responsible filtering today.

Right now there are a few hundred active Damus posters. Wait til there are 1mm.

Too much data. Too much similarity.

Will need to be distilled.

Is it inevitable though when you have an open protocol like #Nostr where anyone can build literally anything they want with it? I think there will be apps that exist in the future, like we have here with Onyx/Damus, that don't have any AI involvement at all & I'm sure some people will still choose those clients over a client where content is subject to AI approval.

Sure.

1% or so

I want my own AI that I control to surface content according to what I tell the AI I’m looking for. Like a proactive search agent.

Makes sense 🤙

I agree with you that centralized AI filtering is dystopian as hell - unfortunately that’ll probably become reality for a lot of people who don’t find an off ramp. I reckon the options are to either go live in the woods, or you can try to fight fire with fire. I see nostr as a relatively defensible bastion of decentralized (which is to say human) intelligence… that’s why I’m here haha

Playing around rn w/ Satellite.earth

Beautiful work man 🤙

Any plans for an Android App down the road?

Yeh I like the UI on Satellite feels futuristic.

Shameless plug of our (now rebranded) Bitcoin Lobby show w/ Stuart where we talk about all of his amazing ideas on the roadmap of satellite.earth 🤙

Thanks! You know I’d love to make a native app but currently bottlenecked by dev resources (me) haha

I will more likely than not make a native app at some point, but in the meantime I’m keeping my eye on this “nostr browser” thing that nostr:npub1xdtducdnjerex88gkg2qk2atsdlqsyxqaag4h05jmcpyspqt30wscmntxy has been working on. Since Satellite already has a mobile web UX, it would be great to be able to run it on mobile without needing extensions and stuff, and maybe even get proper notifications

Just checked out the demo vid. Brilliant, even better. Wow...

Great to hear you are excited, next demo coming this week!

LFG 🚀🚀🚀

Yes that is the flip side of a permissionless protocol. All sorts of awful things will be posted. Definitely one of the biggest challenges for #nostr in my opinion

I think it’s a easily solve able problem. I rarely look at the global feed anymore. I use the search bar to search for people and hashtag topics to follow to curate my feed.

What about new users, how do they get started? They will likely look at a global feed of some sort. Also, sometimes bad content seeks you out. For example, on nostr it is easy to spam, simply by replying to posts. I think spammers will have a field day once nostr gets more popular, and we'll need some clever thinking to counter that

Clients can ask users a bunch of introductory questions?

Like what are you interests and recommend hashtags to follow.

And remind users to share their npubs with friends on other socials so people can find them.

Very trivial imo buts it’s up to client devs to decide how to implement it so it’s smooth onboarding experience

Paid relays use spam filters to tackle that’s problem. Like nostr.wine

I stay away from the global feed. If I want to explore new things on Nostr, I'll just follow hashtags of interests.

Thing about open protocols is the only way you'll ever end a global feed is if literally every single person in this entire world, with the capability to create a Nostr client, agrees to remove a global feed from their clients.
