The history of the area is so messy its hard to explain.

During

World War I the Arabs there revolted against the Ottoman Empire with

the help of the British and were promised their independence. The Brits

do what they do and decide to keep the Palestine with the French.

Between

the wars the British promised the nation to both the Arabs and the

Jews. After World War II the United Nations created Isreal with the Arab

parts given to Jordan (the West Bank) and Egypt (Gaza).

Israel eventually captured the Gaza Strip and West Bank and basically runs them as reservations for Palestinians.

Oh shit. OK so this is about land?

It’s about lots of things, but Israel does take more and more of their land.

Really?

Yes. Aside from historical antagonism between jews and Muslims, it’s a symbol of the jewish/British/American boot on the neck of the Muslim world.

There also is the inherent religious tension between Islam and the jews.

Lots of layers to it.
