Image sharing and file sharing are two different experiences from an end user standpoint, even though images are a type of file. Image sharing is a social activity, whereas file sharing is more transactional in nature. Whatever NIP-94 and 95 make possible in the way of transacting and verifying files over #nostr, building for those possibilities doesn’t need to come at the expense of the social activity of sharing photos with one another. If I was an Amethyst user, I wouldn’t be any longer at this point.

What's the next best Android app?

I have iOS so probably good to get opinions from other Android users. Plebstr is one I’d keep my eye on. On iOS at least, it’s missing a few features I would need. Android version may be different. Iris and Current are two other Android apps. #[3] is probably the best source for which Android clients to recommend.

Amethyst then Plebstr.

Iris has an app? I thought it was web only

Yea, iOS and Android. I haven’t tried it in a while though.

It's not really an app.

Change your default web browser & watch your 'app' break.

It's essentially just a bookmark on your home screen.
