You would think spam would be a bigger problem on Nostr, but it's totally not. Much easier to fool a centralized entity than a decentralized community. Instead of 1 heuristic, you get 100.
Decentralization generally results in better quality because there's competition.

I've seen a few notes that have been marked by many of those I follow. Super easy to avoid scam/spam when that happens.
Yea that is a pretty curious thing I've noticed as well, my hypothesis is that there is less of an incentive for now because we are a "small" group but who know maybe there's something fundamentally different that makes nostr better at mitigating this problem
Perhaps in the future some relays could introduce some PoW (like hashcash) before adding new notes? Would this be a great anti-spam tool as well? 🤔

I'm going to have to disagree. I would not think spam would be a bigger problem. I think spammers show up after the crowds show up. It's still early days.
I would say spam is a function of network size. More users make it economical for the spamer.

Ill argue that the difference is that centralized platforms WANT spam, it helps their end goal. Where as nostr and decentralized platform want better UX.

I believe that central actors compete with each other, while decentralization encourages collaboration.
In the meantime, I think competition is more a fiat thing. With each other is my goal. I used to always think competition is good. Nowadays I thing Cooperation is the key for a better world and progress of humanity
