not sure how great they are... here is the image with brightness and contrast cranked to max to see if at some level the detail of my eyes can be made out (this is very close to a 75W incandescent, which has a lot of IR spectra too

i think you can say that it probably will be enough to stop facial recognition systems from locking on to my eyes in most circumstances

there is a higher rating of IR blocking than this, this is level 3, there is level 5

these glasses are also mildly ballistic resistant, they are made for people working with oxy torches and grinders and such, which have a lot in common with fragmentation and small calibre projectiles for their force and energy and temperatures

based on the difference of the amount of light my phone camera gets from the IR illuminator of my pc's lighting remote control i'd say it blocks about 50-60% of the IR light

something like that, yeah, they don't have it specified on the label there but they are level 3 IR blocking, probably the level 5 is maximal... lenses like this on goggles that have spongy shrouds on the sides would probably be total blackout for IR cameras tho

this is showing it against an infrared carbon incandescent lamp, looks like a good 50-60% block to me

i'd have to really test it with a pure IR illuminated night camera to see how well it actually works though, but it's still better than regular sunglasses, which are practically transparent to IR

btw, does the + signify something? it also said something about "IR Filter 3" and i saw some other similar welding safety lenses with higher numbers like 5

Nah. But the numbers indicate the shielding effect to arc light if I’m not mistaken

If you ever accidentally looked at a welding arc, it fries your eyes pretty good, gotta lay with potatoes or cucumbers on your closed eyes. It sucks

yeah i figured these were just for like an oxy torch working on steel for like cutting and such... yes very white hot blast of IR but nothing like a welding arc... those things leave burn-in on your eyes for a minute even at 10 yards range, even reflections from metal objects

anyhow i got them for reducing the ability of IR illuminators from showing my eyes to cameras so the many cameras i may pass by from time to time will not be usable images to recognise me automatically from my face

The it ratings on those are just to protect you from the infra red radiation. 5 being stronger. Those aren’t intended for welding but will protect you from the arc flash burns. The actual osha requirement for the helmet is darker I believe. I haven’t done iron work in over a decade.

that photo was taken with a LOT of light real close to my head with a lot of IR spectra... at more than 3 feet away i doubt the camera sees my eyes at all
