I still use IG to keep in touch with friends & fam from the normie realm.

I see a lot of “Treat yourself” “You deserve it queen” content there.

I think it encourages instant gratification, debt and unhealthy habits. I see a lot of self deprecation content about all of the above there.

I’m grateful for my btc community for promoting low time preference, healthy habits, frugality and so much more.

Grateful to be around people who celebrate discipline and long term visions 🤝

That’s it exactly! Reminds me of advice you would receive from your Grandpa but it’s the best advice. Our generation has rejected a lot of the norms that have kept society healthy. Why?

Easy money.

Cheap dopamine.

It works for a bit, but once you see the downside, the charade is obvious.

We're starting to see the end of the sugar high

It's easier to control you, when you don't take responsibility.

Being extremely lazy & just looking for instant gratification makes you give away personal responsibility more & more the longer you are lazy & just consume, without doing something about your life.

The guys up there would love us to just hang out all day, watching ads & consuming based on what we saw in those ads & most importantly keeping our mouths shut.

Pura Vida!

100%. Discipline = Freedom. Low time preference just feels so much better 🤙🏼

💜🤲🏻

I've just deleted my IG account this year after seeing a lot of my friends becoming like strangers on that platform. What they posted and expressed (AKA show-off) made me feel like I don't know them at all. Not going back to that stuff anymore.

Time preference yes, but also (and imo more deeply) about ego.

It's me me me out there, wanting to be seen, wanting to be talked about, wanting to be liked, spiced with lots of self-delusion ("healthy at any size" / etc) to keep said ego happy - all the while making it more and more fragile, also.

I've seen this kind of thing here as well, but empirically nowhere near as much as normie social media, which I've never used because a cursory glance at it revealed that ego reigned supreme there, distraction was everywhere and also for some reason a lot of angry people.

Meditation & psychedelics I'm telling you, would put things into perspective for a lot of people.

But it's the hard road, and the road less traveled, so I doubt it will ever happen - people tend to go the path of least resistance, often but not always unconsciously: avoid the pain of growing&changing, embrace the transient and cheap pleasure du moment (another like, some porn, sugary food, whatever).

Yeah.. fun times on Earth.

The anger fits in well to that perspective when you consider that most anger also stems from ego.

Absolutely hate all the deserve it stuff. Poeple deserve to be free, that's about it
