Now we need to help them understand that the reason Bitcoin has value is due primarily to it's ability to enforce a set of rules in a decentralised manner.
This is only possible because a large number of ordinary people are able to run self validating nodes.
Using the Bitcoin blockchain as a storage mechanism for arbitrary data, such as JPEGS, massively bloats the UTXO set, and rapidly increases the system resources required to run a node.
(This is exactly what we have seen play out over the course of the last 12 months, since Ordinals/BRC20 tokens have been around).
The more people continue to dump arbitrary data onto the blockchain, the more they hurt Bitcoins decentralisation and censorship resistence, by rapidly driving up the cost of running a self hosted node.
Miners are responsible for mining the transactions, but it is the node runners who enforce the consensus rules.
We fought a drawn out blocksize war over this same issue several years ago. Lets not forget why.
It's time to recall and revisit first principles.
