When Satoshi wrote "I am not Dorian Nakamoto", Wright thought "hey, I'm also not Dorian Nakamoto, therefore I must be Satoshi".
At least, that's the most compelling reasoning I can think of so far.

Technically, Len Sassaman was the first Satoshi, with a 'handover' to Hal Finney, in a brief season of the 'second Satoshi'.
After that, the franchise ended, and the rights opened up so that we could all be Satoshi.
