A neutron's outer shell is negative and its core is positive. It peacefully hides a constant fight between them. It's a symbol of self-control and inner wisdom. Until it beta decays and beats the crap out of everyone.

I think you mean a nucleus, not a neutron

Neutron, they net to zero charge. One UP quark (+2/3 charge) is balanced by two DOWN quarks (-1/3 charge).

Reason number 628 why I love nostr

Ok but its a bit of a stretch to describe it as a shell

Don't be an electron and break my joke :)

Couldn't grasp the last sentence. Any typo there?

Good morning☕🙂

Just like me fr fr

Gm Vitor 🤙☕

Neutrons don’t have an „outer shell“. They are made of three quarks held together by strong nuclear forces that have a quantum-electrostatic nature. Also, neutrons don’t beta decay, the nucleus does, which emits an electron or positron depending on the emission type.

> neutrons don’t beta decay

Is this a new thing? I am not up to speed in particle physics but, in the past, neutrons decaying was indeed a thing. Maybe the wording has changed?

Yes free neutrons do beta decay with a half life of about 10 minutes.

Gm boss, have a nice day 🫂

N is frozen hydrogen. By itself iit will thaw in 20 minutes unless it can huddle for warmth.
