I'm curious, would any of you here have considered yourself popular back in high school? Or would the majority of you categorize yourselves as nerds/outcasts/weirdo?

Not trying to get into any big philosophical debate or anything, just curious how ya'll see yourselves looking back.

I was a band geek. Definitely not one of the cool kids in school. Among the band kids I was middle of the pack. Was friends with the popular nerds and got invited to band parties but also hung out with the nerd's nerds too.

How abt you?

Outcast. Hung out with goth kids and jugalos.

Oh yeah I had a bunch of goth/juggalo friends too but I mostly just hung out with them by association. My long term gf at the time, some of her friends dated among that crowd.

That crowd also sorta overlapped with the emo battle of the bands crowd which I hung out with a bit more.

If you were popular in my crowd you either had a hookup for good drugs or you had parents who were never home or didn't GAF if you and your friends partied at your house. I had neither.

Lol I had a car (albiet a total shitbox) and was willing to drive... that was my value add.

I was a floater… for some reason I could move around in different circles

That was the word I was looking for!

Yes floater! I'm sure a lot of ppl around here would have considered themselves as such. Most ppl were still trying to find themselves.

We are the same

High school was a really weird social experiment for me. Some people would say I was popular just because I got along with every group. I played sports but I was in robotics club. I also did choir but I also smoked a lot of weed. But always considered my "people" as a core group of weirdos that I always hung around with (Some of which I'm still in contact with today.)

So i dunno.

Yeah it's sometimes hard to pin down just where you belong in those early years. I'm not surprised by your answer though!

Lol, I definitely did a lot of exploring as one would put it.

Def the smart weirdo/theater gang

The theater crowd was a lot of fun. Totally wacky off the wall types. Love it!

I was a social butterfly, didn't belong to any one group, but I knew and hungout with everyone

Seems to be a popular answer! I wonder if there's any correlation between the social butterfly floater types and open-mindedness and accepting of new things? (Like bitcoin)

Gave me a better perspective, and it allowed me not to fall into the Group Think Trap

But, it had it's down sides too, if anyone suspected anything, they looked at me because, I didn't take some unspoken loyalty oath

Ahh yes, never alone but always an outsider

I was moderately popular but not a sports guy, prep kid or an AP student - more of wild boy that just didn’t give a fuck and always made people laugh. That endeared me to lot of people. But I was ruthless and had a lot of enemies too. I had fun at school everyday but was always in trouble. Good times, haven’t thought about high school in a long while.

Haha I know the type. Can definitely picture you back then! I'd probably have hung out with you randomly here and there.

I rarely think abt high school but idk what hit me today and been reflecting a lot on it and how I've changed (and stayed the same).

Yeah sometimes the brain access old files randomly πŸ˜‚

Feels like another life thinking back on it.

Definitely nerd, outcast, weirdo here. I was a goth art student in a small, southern town at a high school that praised athleticism over the arts. Add to that the fact that my family struggled financially and you've got yourself a recipe for a bullied (but brave and outspoken) kid.

Ohhhhh boy. Being a poor art goth in a small southern sportsball town I'm sure taught u a lot of grit! Hardened you to the amazing strong person you are today!

Shucks, thanks, friend.

Nerd.😜

And proud of it!

I got a varsity letter tho.... in tennis

A skidding forehand slice is a scalpel when well used.

100%. I loved the finesse game. My signature was a crazy forehand slice smash. Skim right over the net, drop in the service box and just stop.

I used to love baiting the lob. Try top spin it and the vertical would eat you on smash or high chop.

Loop it high and come to the net and I'm sending a canon back haha. Good times.

Bahahaha yesssssss. That's like salt in the wound with the smash back in their face cause they know its coming and ain't nothing they can do abt it.

Nerdy athlete kid. Math club, debate club, football team, basketball team, wrestling team.

Coding and Tennis in spare time.

Prankster full time.

Athletic nerd - a rare breed!

Rare breeds fit nowhere tho kek

You fit right in here on nostr!

computer nerd

Haha same. I'm assuming you did the whole Lan party thing? Lugging a big ass crt monitor and beige IBM computer to your friends house?

Dude I was homeschooled. 🀣

Lolllll so is it safe to say you were the most popular kid in your class?

Nah. My brother was the good kid. 🀣

Speech/debate nerd (with trophies), had a broadcast radio show during lunch, and competed in Mock Trial. Not popular things at a hick school.

My sister tells me I was popular. But it was for all the wrong reasons. I was a mess.
