Running #knots ! (was running a filtering 27.1 Core instance until today, but from now on proudly signaling one more Knots-nodes to the network).

Still won’t stop a big miner to insert a large scale, serialized, illegal turd into a block, and my knots node to validate it, but at least, I’ll have my #mempool and my conscience clean.

if you are relaying blocks with illegal data in them then no your conscience is not clean. makes no difference if the illegal data is in blocks instead of the mempool. will you completely stop relaying blocks??

Won’t stop relaying blocks no. You are right in that regard, but you know like me that the most harmful stuff (images) already there is split across multiple outputs. You’d have to want to be exposed to that stuff and reconstruct it.

I understand there may also be URLs in plain text, but it’s the same, you’d have to be already actively informed of where to look (which block), and know where that link leads to. Also, if you allow me to say where my conscience is, then yes I am ok so far. If you allow me in return, goatmeal, I also have a question : Will you completely stop using the www ?

what a stupid question

there's already plenty of 'p in the bitcoin blockchain, that everyone is storing and relaying when they run any bitcoin node, that can never be erased. nobody gets to claim moral superiority or a clean conscience. it will be much easier for us to get past this, just like every other time this kind of FUD was popular, if every node runner just admitted that they don't care.

Knots nodes are 24% now. Grows everyday. A lot of people care. Won’t debate the efficiency. But we care. Not sure want you mean by « get past this », but if it’s « get past morale stances », then what remains is still people taking action against more evil.

I regret you dismiss my question. Not wanting more filth is a good enough morale superiority, YES. If you disagree with that, then good luck.

if you really wanted it to stop you would advocate for a fork that forbids big OP_RETURNs and ordinals and other things, in consensus. but you don't. you won't even talk about or acknowledge the possibility.
