I didn’t know that. One of the major differences between the Māori and North American natives is that they are one people, and fought together as one and negotiated as one people. In the US and Canada there are so many different nations and tribes, that have a long history of fighting against one another, that the treaties and negotiations are so different for each nation. I’ve read papers that also point to this being the reason that the Māori have been more successful at maintaining their language, culture and methods of educating their children. There are schools and universities that teach 100% of their curriculum in the Māori language.

my ex who is kiwi and educated thru Waldorf alongside Maoris told me that. and that they negotiated as one makes sense too. he also told me there were two tribes, but one got guns from the English and slaughtered the other tribe first then negotiated?
Yes that’s right. Was the same with many tribes in NA. Those who could Master the horse first, cutoff trading routes for other tribes and then traded for guns. They took over.
