I'm still learning the timings on when to feed. this is an open barrel burn on a 60 degree angle so possibly. But there's always going to be some ash until I can make a retort style kiln. it should just snap like that with a crystal/glass like sound. After all, it is just the carbon that's left over.

This is the method we're looking at trying too, but first we need the winds to stop some!

Try pointing the open end of the barrel away from the wind, and put a wind break to the rear of it.

I don't really know your set up so any advice will come across as dumb 🀣🀣

I appreciate it but yeah we're in the high desert and it's what we affectionately call wind season. Our winds are on average of about 20 to 25 mph, with gusts higher. But this past week we had actually wind warnings so our wind has been in the 30 to 40 mph. We are "patiently waiting" for a rare spring day without wind or at least low enough that we feel comfortable burn for an extended time.

But looks awesome!
