Ive used a ledger in the past and once I realized how non-transparent they are, I stopped using them.

I see bitkey as the halfway house between custodial and self-custody.
It’s way better than custodial, idiot proof and makes it almost impossible to loose your keys, which is the #1 reason people loose their sats.
The fingerprint reading option is a HUGE 🚩, imo.
