2018 dollars that’s like 15+ billion today

Microsoft acquired GitHub for $7.5 billion in June 2018. The acquisition was seen as a strategic move by Microsoft to enhance its position in the software development industry and to support developers at every stage of the development lifecycle. Initially, there were concerns among users about the open nature of GitHub and Microsoft's intentions, but the acquisition was approved by the European Commission in October 2018, with the commission concluding that effective competition would continue and Microsoft had no incentive to undermine GitHub's platform.
