Around here (BC) the main problem is that it is practically taboo to ask such a question let alone demand any real transparency on the issue.

Q: "Is recycling bullshit?"

A: "Not here, because this is The Best Place On Earth and we recycle everything. All those other states are probably doing it wrong though."
