Hmm…debating on whether I should try to learn how to code in React and node.js or if I should eat a bag of broken glass. Any suggestions? #AskNostr

😅

What about Rust?

Good idea. Eating a bag of rusty nails is preferable to JavaScript.

I don’t really have an option in this case. The website I’ve inherited is built in React and I’m a fish out of water.

Personally, I prefer Vue.js to React.

Start with simple scripts in node.js then you move on to React when you’re ready for full apps with UIs

The knowledge will largely transfer over

Shill me some tutorials that won’t make me want to jump off a building.

Dunno about tutorials but the YDKJS series is good and free on GitHub or you can get the books in print

A front end dev friend of mine likes this react library more than others. If that helps you not stab your eye out.

https://mui.com/material-ui/

They have basic core components. Complex assembled components, and whole page templates in working prototypes.

Others like

Yes I know this isn’t a tutorial. But maybe something around all that helps also if the library doesn’t suck ? Good luck.

There are other web frameworks. Google even built a thing to compile Java to Javascript. Broken glass isn't your only other option.

It is in this case because the site I’m maintaining is built in it and I’m not looking to rewrite it at the moment.

Code so the pain lasts longer 😉

Svelte is a lot easier than react and arguably more performant

Go with the glass

Find a no/low code platform and become a business consultant. Earn money creating solutions directly for customers... without having to write code from scratch. Ka-ching!

Nostr is simple enough you can do it with JavaScript and html only. I’d recommend that to start

This isn’t specific to Nostr. The original developer of the website for the company I work for built it that way, and I’m maintaining it myself, at least until we can bring on someone who can help me.
