“Effective Altruism” is so completely lacking in self-awareness that it’s proponents, all 150 of them, are the only ones who believe it is worthwhile. Literally every other person looks at them and immediately cringes

“Effective Altruism” gives me SBF vibes… no thanks

It’s the same thing

Bunch of absolute wankers

Just this one guy can fool that many people… and not a single remarkable thing about him.

Many probably didn’t even know him before his scam blew up. Wish it could have stayed that way.

Signalling altruism is a bit of red flag for me.

I see it a bit in some Bitcoiners.

If I give unconditionally, it's because I like how it feels. I don't tend to make a big deal of it. I don't kid myself that I'm doing it solely for them.

Same for contributing to Bitcoin initiatives - if the initiative succeeds, we all benefit. I'm not doing it because I'm altruistic.

Well put mate.

There’s nothing wrong with doing good deeds and enjoying that giving feeling. Sometimes it’s worth showing off, sometimes it should go unsaid.

We do nice things for others for the feeling it gives us, and the reciprocity of gratitude of the receiver adds to that.

It’s the pretending that one is doing it purely out of virtue which sticks in the craw because that’s faker than fake - they show it off and want the plaudits whilst acting like they don’t as if they’re simply holier than thou which just reeks of insincerity; it’s the modern day equivalent of buying indulgences.

Yes - exactly how I feel about it.

It's taken me a long while to find the words to articulate what I've intuitively felt for a long time.

For a while I thought there was something wrong with me.

I think it's similar to the guilt & uncertainty that normies feel when they disagree with the current thing but feel that they have no choice.

Will McCaskill is MI6 and none of these people actually believe this shit.

Take it to the bank 🏦

This is revisionist history. Their EA bs was why ppl liked them. Ppl saw that and were like okay these kids really get it! Not like those greedy old men. That’s why normies and investors alike got played by Sam. They catered to the western commie collectivism that is brewing, played them like fools.
