We have like 50 people who aren’t Nostr only, so we don’t have enough community outreach. We need a video first app that functions as well as TikTok. We must exceed expectations if we expect users to come here. We must make our voice heard ON THOSE PLATFORMS. How else could they find out about Nostr?

Exactly why I kept my accounts on those other platforms. Every month or so I post some new thing saying "nostr is better and here's why"

I posted a video on TikTok showing how easy sending BTC via zaps is. I was showing some XRP shitcoiner to prove that BTC is better. I was always mentioning it in peoples comments

Keep doing it. This is how we win. One adoption at a time.

Even so, I don't think they will come, and if they did come, some of them probably wouldn't keep it... a question of economic incentives, more than anything, for them. On another point of view, for the most common users, it can be a huge incentive to be able to monetize from day 0 and without an imposed recommendation algorithm, they would make more of an effort to make better content and appear in your feed... in conclusion: I don't think content creators from other platforms will come, at least in a massive way... I think the way forward is for new content creators to emerge here... even if someone with reach mentions Nostr, it will always be of great help, even speaking badly

Well the most successful tiktokers were the live streamers. TikTok has micropayments integrated in their livestreams, in the form of “coins”. Different gifts cost different amounts ranging from $0.01 to $500.

I think Nostr is well positioned to replace TikTok because we already have micropayments integrated. Building an app that can mimic the TikTok livestreams would be as simple as integrating zaps and having gifts be different zap amounts.

People on TikTok were making upwards of $1000 a day streaming, with under 100k followers usually. TikTok live streaming is the perfect demonstration that V4V and micropayments work. We just need a larger user base to enable similar incomes. TikTok was taking 50% of their earnings.

It's difficult to start from scratch without algorithms but I agree with you and I think it can tempt more than one person who has a certain commitment to free speech

They can also keep their accounts on other networks and keep the earnings from both

I honestly don’t think building an algorithm would be that hard, it’s just resource intensive

You don't need them, there are more methods... I'm not asking that they be removed but that you use more alternatives... even building your own feed and being able to share it with others or in your profile or lists in your profile of users that you recommend

Well, the tiktokers like algorithms. The simplicity of a single page that can instantly respond when you find a new interest, for example you go down a rabbit hole about sourdough bread and it starts showing you that content.

This kind of an algorithm is undeniably better for discovery compared to custom feeds.

An algorithm like this needs to run on a centralized server. You need to analyze all content with AI to label things thoroughly so that you can properly recommend relevant content.

And as much as nostriches hate this, a mainstream app needs to have censorship. It should be voluntary, but a mainstream app should hide pornography, gore, death threats, encouraging self harm, etc.

If I could build my dream TikTok clone right now, I would build a client using a caching server like primal, and use the caching server to consolidate content from popular relays to label the content using AI. I would have it create user interest profiles based on each npub’s interactions, with heavier weighting for recent interests. Every time the user refreshes the home page, the server would generate a list of events that match the users interests, showing them content they haven’t viewed, and serve that list of events to the client.

It would have 3 levels of censorship:

1. Default: no porn, or death/gore

2. Strict: same as default + slurs and “hate speech” hidden

3. Disabled: Nostr experience, fully uncensored (CSAM would not be relayed by the caching server)

It would have the ability to connect to any relay. Relays that aren’t already read by the caching server would be connected to directly, but they would not be visible in the algorithmic feed, only in the chronological feed.

In the case of a caching server outage, the client would read directly from relays, without the AI labeled algorithm. Maybe a lightweight algorithm could run locally in the client in the case of a caching server outage.

I can barely code a webpage at this point so I really don’t know what I’m talking about 🤣
