How much of our dreams and plans are ours?

Independent from family, peers, society, state?

Which ones are independent of the presuppositions coded to us?

How many of our feelings?

How free are we?

Right.

Most humans live their lives for others. Do what society, family or friends think. It’s rare to find authenticy and or freedom of the human mind.

Governments, society, news , certain cultures, religions , ect point us into a direction of their choice, liking and beliefs.

It’s quite saddening that so many conform to a bubble world, controlled by manipulation.

I suppose how ā€œfreeā€ one is depends on if one believes in free will? I guess if one is deterministic, all of one’s actions are, in the end, determined by some cause that is external to any ones ā€œwillā€.

Nice point. Thanks. šŸ«‚

Well, let's say you believe in free will. How free can it be? With learned truths, learned feelings?

Well, you ā€œlearnā€ something, you are free to assign values and truths to what you have learned. Regarding ā€œfeelingsā€, you can let your reflexive (learned) biases take over or you can intentionally step back, lose your bias/es and look at facts of events before reacting (lose the reflexive feelings). There is a phrase by Viktor Frankl — ā€œBetween the stimulus and response, there is a space. And in that space lies our freedom and power to choose our responses. In our response lies our growth and our freedomā€. (Although honestly I think the phrase was erroneously credited to him but the point of the phrase remains — I could not find it in his book ā€˜Man’s Search for Meaning’)

Very nice explanations. Thank you. The word blank is very clear. šŸ«‚šŸ¤—

No, the pleasure is mine. Thank you for the thought exercise.
