Pavel Durov either made a deal to get out of jail or if he didn't, soon Apple and Google will in some way sanction the app.
If it is the first option you will never know until you know and when you know it will be too late.

You would think that it'd be that easy, but somethings not liningup. I dunno, OxChat seems pretty clunky. At the very least I'm not having any luck with it.
would be nice if they made it available on F-Droid and not require Google Play Services. Not going to install it on my Graphene OS device.
