I don't think alby relies on Google play at all, do they? I guess they could block the extension, but that stuff can be sideloaded, and their website would still be available...

Ya you can also use Zeus with Alby from Obtainium. Works really well for me.

Not open source. You can't even use it on Android if you don't have Play Store installed.
