We conquer for money and resources. If you think you’re on the moral side of imperialism, think again.
I'll note that the British were also explicitly seeking to "civilize the barbarians", in some cases. Any reason in particular that you left off the Muslims conquering the Mediterranean, Middle East, and South East Asia to spread Islam?

Imperialism with a moral justification for economic motivations is the norm, not the exception.
