IMO buying a domain and configuring DNS records is easier than setting up a lightning node and managing liquidity.

I'm surprised that nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll and nostr:npub1aghreq2dpz3h3799hrawev5gf5zc2kt4ch9ykhp9utt0jd3gdu2qtlmhct haven't already created a simple solution that integrates with installed services. Cloudflare Tunnels or something similar would be ideal.

Oh I agree

LNBits has a few extensions that require a domain (subdomain leases, ln address too I think) and their instructions on the pane at the right side of the app are really good for getting it setup. Simple and to the point.

Besides, when you do it and add a service, adding more domain-enabled services is aasy. Email, file storage, anything umbrel can host (that's appropriate to put onto public dns!)... Can be given a dns name. Nostr verification and other things that use .well-known routes are enabled.

Domains are an excellent tool to have for next gen web protocols as they grow, and they are easier to learn than Microsoft Excel, if we're being honest.

My official advice as of this date 22 Dec 2023 is to BOTH run your own node, AND manage at least one domain name and DNS. Know how to keep them separate. But neither is all that difficult to get running.
