That’s not true, Sigmond Freud started practicing in 1886

Yes, he started a journey to explore the human mind. He was an explorer looking for answers.
Did the common person seek therapy though?
My point is that the broken money has created a broken mental state in humanity.
I definitely agree there are amplified problems right now due to bad money (and bad social technology in general) but everyday people have had therapy in some shape or form forever.
Yes, they have. From someone that they trusted, and didn't have to pay.
Mother, Father, sibling, wife, or husband.
Seeking help from a fiat standard has only occurred since the money was broken.
Some of those people have their problems from their parents. Then they go into relationships that mimic their parent’s relationship. Did you know that mothers who have been sexually abused are significantly more likely to be with a man that will sexually abuse their children? It’s not that they want that but there is a familiarity with this chaotic relationship style that feels right to them. Therapy is intended to bring awareness to that, process it, and correct it.
that is true, but I think, to the original point, that modern therapy is a function of a very discombobulated, inorganic, and isolating social system which can't be cured of mental maladies through psychoanalysis. I studied psychology in university and, though lots of theories make sense, they don't actually resolve much even in application, so many people do get stuck in a therapy cycle. I'm not against therapy whatsoever, but to your point, having a wife, husband, or close knit friendship circle who can provide healthy and balanced support is the best. lots of people just don't have any of that, so you're also correct.
People used to go to wise elders or role models for guidance. They’d listen to their problems and offer feedback. When the feedback isn’t accepted, they patiently wait for the right time to transmit the lesson. It’s not very different from therapy.
The common person wasn’t aware of unconscious processes. Many still aren’t today. But even among health and academic fields back then, it was uncommon knowledge.
Did fiat make mental health worse? For sure. The devaluation of money is a huge stressor for everyone. But therapy is valuable regardless of what time we live in. I’ve seen someone who struggled with severe emotional and sexual abuse as a child, become extremely violent because of ptsd. He ended up in jail and got therapy after he was out. He’s a completely different person today. Manages anger and the ptsd well and has improved relationships with friends and family. There are people you will meet who seem very well rounded and healthy but have extremely dark pasts that they suffered to get over. And good therapists help these people get through that faster.
Even on a bitcoin standard, therapy will still have high demand because of these unconscious processes. And because humans aren’t perfect, parents with good intentions will unintentionally create psychological problems that their children will struggle with later on.
