I don't think so, being more aggressive could scare off the US, or it could lead to more belligerence. Its a long game and ultimately might cause more/worse destruction, but the risk of greater provocation is not worth it.
The destruction could end today if the US wanted it to, the criminal arrogance of our criminal leaders prevents them from admitting they were wrong in the assumption that Russia was weak and stupid
