A bit extreme, but I also can't understand how this idea of freedom and self-sovereignty reconciles with being an Apple consumer. Shouldn't all Linux users be here instead? Proclaiming "Nostr is freedom tech" with an iPhone is definitely quite funny. nostr:nevent1qgsvyxc6dndjglxtmyudevttzkj05wpdqrla0vfdtja669e2pn2dzuqqyqthzkkqmhutftw6fseg776f9ldpren3g6mw4wnangw0zxnwqg7lk8e5cly

What phone should I buy instead?

I like this little glass-aluminium block.

Recommendations: Purism, Pine Phone, Fairphone, and Google Pixels for privacy tech, however if you're just looking for a generally good experience by default the Samsungs are really nice 😁👌.

I say this as a current Apple user planning to transition to another phone in the future, I also own a Samsung galaxy note 10+ plus, and a Google Pixel (that's currently broken).

Phones to be skeptical of but maybe research blackphone, unplugged, and freedom phone.

DN8 just found this one while researching, be skeptical also.

One possible explanation (atleast for some of these apple nostr user cases 😅): They invest in Bitcoin just to make money and not because of its freedom philosophy. The Bitcoin they hold becomes a status symbol, such as their Apple products. They wanna show off their status symbol. They know that many other Bitcoiners are on Nostr. Nostr for them is like an oldtimer-car club, a place to show of their trophies.

And for the linux users preferring non-foss social networks: being a linux user doesn't automatically make you pro freedom 🙈.

InshaAllah my next phone is gonna be a pixel running graphene

Are there Pixel phones available with Graphene pre-installed or do you have to do it yourself?

I'm sure you could find some on Monero marketplaces listed on https://monerica.com/ like XMRBazaar, however generally like any tech I would recommend buying from reputable sources if possible, and installing the os yourself, however if need be I am sure some are sold pre-installed.

Thank you. Btw, why you no Lightning?

I am exploring it but I haven't currently implemented it yet.

You can order one through SimplifiedPrivacy. They can preinstall it for you. You also have options to buy with Bitcoin or probably Lightning.

Do it yourself! It is dead simple with the web installer.

Curious if that gets around the blocking of miracast support or if that's built into the hardware somehow. I've loved my Pixels for years (and Nexus before them...better really), but the petty lack of support for open Miracast is particularly annoying, especially in a home full of Roku TV's and firesticks.

My Pixel is locked (came that way after the insurance claim on the last one) so I can't check it for myself just yet.
