it could have been worse πŸ˜‚

I’d say it’s just catering to mass market appeal. Too unique means higher production cost and smaller target audience. They want to make sure they have a competing model for each target market so they end up looking the same.

Agreed. Who’s the β€œthey” that’s orchestrating this? If it were a top down effort, wouldn’t there be enormous pressure for any one car company to break rank, make beautiful cars, and sell them like crazy?

To build on your point, car companies are all dealing with the same laws of physics, guiding them to similar aerodynamic designs. Also, these days car manufacturers often re-use the same car platform/chassis for many different models, further restricting their design in exchange for better production efficiency.

Yep. Same in housing construction. When you standardize your materials you reduce costs.

And make everything soulless.

You can still get whatever you want at a higher cost.

That's the point. You can't. Except you find some old ones. They don't build em like this anymore.

Mostly comes down to costs. Modern vehicles have more constraints like fuel efficiency so that naturally leads to the same aerodynamic shapes.

Thanks to the gobernment, and this answers the question of who's "they".

Which government? 🀣 there are many …

Doesn't matter. You have almost the same policies and agendas all over the globe. Some more than others. Eu still plans to ban combustion engines in 5 years.

Which leads to more pseudo futuristic toasters

What if I told you that the vast majority of people doesn't give a shit about cars? Most people get a car because they need to travel and transports stuff. They want the most convenient, comfortable and cheaper car.

Some people don't even own a car, and not because they cannot afford one, they take the train, metro, bus and are find with it. Some don't even have a driving licence.

So beside a few car enthousiast and teenager boys, nobody care about car design. It's just the latter are the only one talking about it.

Beautiful or ugly... for me they were always a tool, not a status symbol.

Beauty is in nature
