I don't really like disembarking without having something connecting me to the boat, and I have no idea what people do at docks without one (I guess pull the whole thing out of the water? seems like a lot of work for a problem I could solve with a little piece of line)

They made it accessible – not for kayakers, but for wheelchairs. Great. That meant they put in a low railing all around that made it utterly impossible to safely launch a kayak from. I just found a safe bit of shoreline to launch from instead.
