I think a lot of people who are social media users don’t analyse about dopamine hits and stuff-they just use it and want an easy and straightforward experience-whether it is to get the news or a dopamine thing (which they may not know) The only zap option is different and new people may feel excluded and if they aren’t into or don’t understand wallets/Bitcoin, may feel this experience isn’t for them. I guess you have to consider as a developer-who is Damus etc target audiences? At present it is pretty niche-only zaps perpetuates this niche.

I haven’t removed likes and you don’t need to use zaps

The like button is back for readers of OnlyZaps posters’ posts?

Likes are still there for people who want to use them

Bro, it’s not likes, it’s hang looses.

Another approach that could be used: when reacting, drop the p tag referencing the event pubkey, if that pubkey has signalled they don’t want or care for reactions.

Doesn’t break other users experiences or expectations.

I still think if you don’t want to see reactions, literally just don’t query for kind 7. Client side 100%.

The only UX part that’s unclear is how does someone else know that this pubkey prefers to be paid instead of having reactions. Well, everyone would prefer to be paid (or remove lud).. so that kind of kills that issue.

I support the experiment, just not so set on the hard cut enforcement. And I think it’s not likely going to play out long term.. even messenger apps all just added standardised tapback reactions - unless all chat apps remove it, you’re breaking people’s habits and desired way to communicate.

So what does “onlyzaps” mean then?

Its a mode that disables likes on your account

So you could operate an account that disables all likes and zaps for likes?
