One sat still seems to hit better than a like to me. I try to zap at least 1 sat for every like. Just makes people feel better than just a like I think even if it isn't worth much right now.

Wtf does a fraction of a penny do to show someone you "found value" in their content....
It's a petty / sympathy zap that reduces the overall meaning of a zap, imo.
I think zaps should be 1000sats min.
(Like tossing a quarter to someone at today's value)

I like the custom likes, its a smaller (less clutter) interaction than a full note but more meaningful than simple red hearts.
If something delivers value to me, I zap. If its just someone's opinion and I dont learn anything from it its not worth a zap. If I learn a new way of thinking of something, or I value someone's novel synopsis, I zap it.

I practice Universal Basic Zaps with an occasional Stimulus Zap
I have a “meme to need” sliding scale as the stimulus needs to be pointed in certain directions

My default is 21 for notes that deserve a little more than just a reaction. For the 🔥 notes it starts at 500 and doubles for more and more 🔥. The most I've zapped was 10k

It changes. When I saw that I admire a lot, I zap bigger ammounts. Other than that, I zap very little amounts to show that I like the note.
