There's been a TON of bitcoiners who have recently started running a node to show their support for Knots or Core

But running a node is also a great way to improve your privacy in Bitcoin

Instead of having to run your transactions and history through a public node - which can include your IP address - your node can interact directly with the network

There are many great options for running a node - varying in effort and cost

Start9 is my personal favorite and the server that I use to interact with the network

They have a Black Friday deal on now and you can save a couple bonus % points by using "88SATS" at checkout

One of my favorite companies in Bitcoin

Great unit, and even better customer support. Shout out to Stuart for being on top of it

My wallet app uses my own locally exclusive node as backend. I connect my Zeus to LN through my routing node. Being sovereign as much as you can is extremely satisfying.

Thank you for taking the time to educate people.

I have no patience for things that I wish I did.

#Start9โ€ฆI hope to save up & afford one in the future, or to build a media/file/chat/bitcoin server for home and family use. I have been exploring Raspberry Pi 5 as a potential base for my setup. I want my device to have RAID5 w/ 4x 4 TB NVMe drives.

I need to explore what Linus Distro is best/robust/secure/versatile enough to perform these functions.

you should start with a Virtual Private Node. you will get the Linux and command line experience necessary for the use case above. and it is a cheaper alternative.

unfortunately you will have to use Tor and have horrible connectivity on lightning or leak your home IP address while simultaneously telling the world where you live and keep your bitcoin.

Love this angle: nodes as privacy tools, not just orange-pill decor. Start9 boxes feel like training wheels for full self hosting. You running anything beyond Bitcoin on it?
