Inflation is possibly the greatest destroyer of civilizations in history.
You could argue the greatest is war, but many wars only occur in the resulting societal breakdown that follows long standing inflation, or only occur because they are funded by inflation.
It is no coincidence that the century of total war coincided with the century of central banking.
