I think they have flight manifests that they have to maintain records of.

But agree the whole process of flying is stupid. Like why do people stand in line at the gate as if they’re desperate to get on the plane - you’ve got an allocated seat, no-one is going to take your spot.

Don’t get me started on the scanners..

Frustration at the sheer dependence of your position and the need to feel you’re doing SOMETHING, making some kind of progress.

So fiat mindset? Because you don’t control the gate, you don’t control the boarding calls, and you’re doing nothing actually productive.

I guess, feels like a reach though. It’s basically a symptom of shitty UX design. Also it’s inside an effective monopoly (don’t like this airport’s design and loading practices? Just use the one down the street next time!) propped up by crony capitalism (government restricts who can build airports, and subsidises them)
