I think the argument of selfishness is flawed in the first place. It's based on individuals preferring their comfort, but really on nobody's expense. People suffering discomfort with own parenting then see this choice as an opinion on their own life choices.

Deeper thoughts about economy are not valid in case of your traditionalist acquittances pushing not minding their own business.

I have kids, might have third, economy needs future generations strong and I still think labeling childless people selfish is selfish and arrogant itself.

If you expect the child it owns you your invested assets and should fulfill your expectations, you're a bad parent to begin with. Kids don't own their parents shit, they're free beings we just keep from death. The absolute love and trust they give us by nature from day one should be a pillar for reliable and solid relationship. In the first at least decade of this relationship parent is the one to fuck it up.

You might argue kids don't hold onto that, check out book "Hold on to your kids" for example.

Also check out this podcast on why we should have kids, but that clash with modern style of life clashes it..

I'm of course talking from my point pf view (which might be surprisingly dark for a housewife and loving mum) and this is extremely individual feeling, but where the sentence start "People should..." I always raise my eyebrows. Freedom, brother.
