A quick review of Current for Android and iOS.

The on-boarding process is fantastic, the best I've seen on mobile. The UI and overall UX is equally fantastic.

Having a built in Lightning wallet with full Zap support will make sending and receiving Nostr aware Zaps incredibly simple. Especially since it's all in one app.

I like the design choices and naming conventions for different Nostr elements. For example, using network settings instead of relays makes sense. It's more familiar to the average person.

There's even an easy backup and restore solution, allowing you to use seed words to restore your keys. Something Bitcoiners would be familiar with.

The concept and design are all great, but functionality isn't there yet. It's not all that usable compared to other offerings. I'll stick with Amethyst for now, even though Current has a better UI/UX.

One question...

If I sign in with my own set of keys, does this app try to overwrite my existing NIP-05 and LUD06/16 fields? I didn't test that. I'm gun-shy after Nostr.com overwrote my Lightning address with it's own last month. I only created a new set of burner keys to test. Thanks.

I did. I didn't like the idea of getting banned from the app and having all of your sats sitting in a wallet with no way to recover them.

The EULA is exactly same as Damus which is required to get through App Store. We will come up with a process to offload the wallet and communicate with the user.

I get that. That's fine. I am using stacker.news now for NIP-57 support and every time I get a few thousand sats on it, I transfer them to my own node. I'd do the same for any custodial wallet.

Yes. This is like having few coins in the car glove box..! App specific wallets serves a purpose but you will not put more than few thousands sats.

We are also thinking we can automatically move sats to the user’s key on chain once the balance reaches over 100k sats.. lots of new features to add.

I’m 💯 for any and all development for Nostr - just wanted to bring awareness. Getting blocked from using the app doesn’t mean much in decentraland with us holding our keys and our own wallets - but custodial wallets in the apps themselves present a unique challenge. Was wondering if a mnemonic could be developed to restore keys for LN wallets? This is a thing, right?

Right. Since the users control the seed and that can generate a public key, we can push the sats directly into that.. user can then take the key and go to a different app.

You're welcome. The Lightning integration is definitely your #1 feature, IMO. Once the app gets a bit more stable, performance improves, and I can visit someone's profile to open their posts and comment on them, I'd consider switching to it. Keep up the great work!

- Zap within the App without going to another wallet App

- See zap per post, total amount and separated in replies

- Receive Zap for your post from other clients such as Damus or Snort.social

- Available on Google and Apple store using testing links

It wants a username, when I type in my name, it gives a list of what looks like nip05 identifiers? Maybe I’m clicking the wrong buttons

that's correct from what i remember. once you pick a username, it sets up a NIP-05 ID and Lightning address for you all with the same name.

Thanks for helping Derek. Yes. Both NIP-05 and lightning address are the same. Based on your username you have a choice to pick a domain you like. Once picked it sets and NIP05 event is published automatically.

You can still use your existing NIP05 and lightning address. You still get a @getcurrent.io address but you only use the built in wallet to send Zaps. Zaps received will go to your existing lightning address.

The best way to test the app is to create a new key, profile and test out the features..!
