I was referring to IMDb & RT. As an aggregator of reviews, they are averages, by definition the mainstream view.

I prefer to follow directors writers & actors I like. What have they created, what inspired them, what new films do they enjoy. The same with reviewers. I find ones that have similar tastes to me, rather than an average.

I also find those sites focus only on new movies, where I find a lot of value in older films too.

Yeah it’s an average. It’s a useful tool haha and the top 250 are mostly older movies

It lets you keep track of what you like, and recommends stuff based on comparing your favorites to others with similar tastes. I've got far more out of this tool than I have ever got out of IMDb or RT.
