I am curious about it says about protection from wild life predators. Specifically bears.

I have a lot of experience raising chickens. Bears have been a bitch for me to deal with. Always winds up in close encounters with me, a bear, my livestock, and my firearms.

According to the author, one of the main preventive measures is to build a secure coop using reinforced wire mesh to prevent access by predators such as raccoons, foxes, and weasels. Additionally, it is recommended to close the coop at night when these animals are most active.

Other tips include installing electric fencing around the perimeter of the chicken area, using motion-activated lighting to scare away predators, and removing any attractants such as food scraps or water that might draw these animals. Lofgren also emphasizes the importance of regularly inspecting the coop structure and reinforcing vulnerable points.
