Because they control the distribution platform, so they can bully you into conforming to their arbitrary demands.

Computers were built by hackers, and Free Software fought against its control for decades. Now to many people, smartphones are the ONLY computers, which were first built as TOYS. Now we're still working backwards to having freedom on them.
